Change the privacy of a stream

This feature is only available to organization owners and administrators.

Streams can be web-public, public or private, and private streams can have shared or protected history. See stream permissions for details on stream privacy settings.

As an organization administrator, you can always make a public stream private, but you must be subscribed to a private stream in order to make it public.

  1. Click on the gear () icon in the upper right corner of the web or desktop app.

  2. Select Stream settings.

  3. Click All streams in the upper left.

  4. Select a stream.

  5. Select the General tab on the right.

  6. Under Stream permissions, configure Who can access the stream.

  7. Click Save changes.

You can also hover over a stream in the left sidebar, click on the ellipsis (), and select Stream settings to access the General tab.

  1. Tap the Streams (hash) tab at the bottom of the app.

  2. Scroll down to the bottom, and tap ALL STREAMS.

  3. Press and hold a stream name until the long-press menu appears.

  4. Tap Stream settings.

  5. Tap Edit stream.

  6. Tap Privacy, and configure Who can access the stream.

  7. Tap Save.

You can also press and hold the name of a stream in Inbox and stream views to access the long-press menu.

Note: This sends an automated notice from notification bot to the "stream events" topic in the modified stream.

Warning: Be careful making a private stream public. All past messages will become accessible, even if the stream previously had protected history.
